History
Eastham, MA was originally inhabited by the Nauset Tribe, however, by 1651 the town had been taken over by pilgrims. Eastham’s economy was based around fishing, salt making, and agriculture. Although, Eastham’s harbors were not considered to be as good as the surrounding towns so they focused more on agriculture. By 1830 Eastham started to grow its routes as a resort town with a Methodist church starting a summer camp in town. Shortly after, in 1870 the railroad made its way to Eastham boosting the economy and allowing Eastham to export its grain.
